INTRODUCTION
Learn to understand how real estate opportunities are identified, evaluated, planned, financed, developed, and brought to market.

This course provides a practical foundation in real estate development and the development process. Through real-world examples, project scenarios, feasibility exercises, and industry practices, participants will develop a stronger understanding of how market opportunity, land, planning, design, finance, construction, and commercial decisions come together to shape a successful development project.

​COURSE OUTLINE

​Module 1: Real Estate Development Foundations - Understand what real estate development is, the role of the developer, major asset classes, key industry participants, and how value is created through the development process.
-
Module 2: Development Lifecycle & Opportunity Identification - Explore how development opportunities are identified and how projects progress from initial concept and site identification through acquisition, planning, design, construction, commercialization, occupancy, and eventual disposition or long-term operation.

Module 3: Due Diligence, Feasibility & Development Planning - Understand site and market analysis, planning and zoning considerations, development approvals, physical and environmental due diligence, development costs, revenue assumptions, financial feasibility, risk assessment, and the decisions that determine whether a project should proceed.

Module 4: Development Execution & Project Delivery - Explore how a development moves from an approved business case into execution, including design management, consultant coordination, procurement, financing, construction, cost and schedule oversight, marketing, leasing or sales, and management of development risk.

Module 5: Completion, Asset Strategy & Emerging Industry Practice - Understand project completion, occupancy, stabilization, asset operations, disposition and lessons learned, while exploring emerging trends affecting real estate development, including sustainability, technology, changing market conditions, housing needs, alternative development models, and evolving investment strategies.

Assessment & Certification - Participants who attend at least 3 of the 5 classes will receive an ABCD Campus Certificate of Completion. The certificate recognizes completion of industry training and does not constitute a professional licence or authorization to practise.
